Concept Design (RIBA Stages 0-2)

Feasibility Studies
At the very beginning of projects, even before plots or sites are selected can the architectural input, to the formulation of the brief, be of real value. Projects are formed out of a need with associated cost budgets and time frames, which we help define. It is generally the case that schemes begin to feel real when you add visuals (sketches, plans, massing studies) to the initial considerations.

Masterplanning
We have experience in assessing the feasibility of potential development land from single plots to multiple medium scale residential schemes. Working closely with planning consultants we help negotiate the often complicated planning process. In addition we use 3D modeling tools to demonstrate proposed contextual impact and tasks such as sunlight studies.

Planning Enquiries & Consultations
Most schemes that require planning permission or confirmation that prior approval is not required, like schemes that fall within ‘Permitted Development’ require drawings to aid the consultations with the various planning bodies. Zinc is very experienced at this level of interaction with local authorities in both the public and private sectors.

Concept Architectural Design
When schemes progress from feasibility, had won outline approval or have had successful pre-planning consultation the design process frequently then gathers momentum within the concept stage. Zinc has a proven ability to generate concepts, options and alternatives to complex project parameters within short periods of time so that owners and/or design committees can review options and make decisions. Schemes tend to progress from hand sketches and simple geometry mass studies to volumetric design illustrating main relationship in and around buildings. The conclusion of this stage will be with client sign-off of the concept.
