Back Lane
Location | Ramsbury, Wiltshire
This house was designed on speculative land identified by our client a developer.
The site is in a sensitive location within the central part of the village. Our design
solution used contextual materials and form, but applied it in contemporary
arrangements. The assymmetry in the arrangements is deliberate and suggests
a fresh insertion into the village’s timeline.

The design is a contemporary interpretation of the local vernacular, both in form and materials. This is an open site and the arrangements of the three main volumes creates an external space that is private yet spacious.
The three individual volumes create a sense of having been formed over a period of time – such as a farmyard. The aim being that this would help integrated the new building within the conservation area, whilst still retaining its contemporary blend.
